FOX TALE

Chapter I
A dead fox lies on the road to Milfontes, just beyond Cultivamos Cultura. Three women and a girl set out to retrieve its skull. The corpse had been there for days—little remained but fur, skin, bones, and maggots. It was difficult to imagine the fox as it had once been. After severing the head, they placed it in a bag and brought it back to Cultivamos Cultura. There, it was boiled to remove the final traces of flesh. What remained were a few fragmented bones.

Chapter II
The house that Cultivamos Cultura inhabits is layered with time. It clings to its walls, ceilings, rooms, and barn. The barn walls bear scars and mended cracks. Some ceilings have collapsed. Plants, insects, and other creatures live among these structures. Objects are scattered throughout the barn and house—lying on floors, stacked in corners, leaning against walls—each bearing the mark of time. Like the fox, it’s difficult to imagine them as once animate. Now, they are silent, decomposing witnesses to stories still unfolding.

Chapter III
Forgotten objects from the house, along with a fragment of the fox’s jaw, were transformed into instruments of wind, water, and string.

This work explores transubstantiation as both a means of enduring in the world and a reimagining of what beauty can be.
